Ron's South African Home
“You know, I’m very fond of Joburg…. I have
enjoyed your pleasant skies and as a matter of fact, I have myself
quite a long history in Southern Africa.”
– L. Ron Hubbard
Ron’s Home Restored in South Africa
In 1960, humanitarian and author L. Ron Hubbard came to South
Africa where he took up residence on Linkfield Ridge in Cyrildene,
Johannesburg. In 2005, his home was restored and now stands as
a historical monument displaying Mr. Hubbard’s research
and discoveries.
During his stay in South Africa, Ron worked tirelessly as a humanitarian,
advocating human rights and criminal and mental health reform,
bringing his solutions to bear upon the most pressing issues of
African society.
Among his solutions; the start of a program called Education
Alive to bring a real form of education to the people of South
Africa as well as what has today become known as the
Volunteer Minister program, known worldwide for its support in
any disaster.
So it is in his newly restored home that one can be introduced
to L. Ron Hubbard and quite literally walk in his footsteps. The
living room served several purposes: Ron not only used it as a
meeting place to discuss his plans and programs for South Africa,
he also applied the procedures of Dianetics and Scientology with
members of his household staff so as to increase their efficiency.
The space has been completely restored to historical accuracy.
Today the original exotic woods and stonework and furniture, fabrics,
carpets and accessories are just as they were when Ron lived here.
While every single room of the house was restored to exact precision,
the house now stands as a historical site where anyone can find
out about the many discoveries and solutions Ron developed throughout
his lifetime. As a professional in 29 fields, one would conclude
that Ron lived life. In fact, Ron wrote “To know life you’ve
got to be part of it, you must get down into the nooks and crannies
of existence…” – LRH

Those visiting the house today experience what it was like to
travel around the world looking for solutions that would be practical
for any man from any walk of life. So while it is of historical
importance, today it stands as a complete introduction to the
man who cared enough to pave the way for mankind and leave behind
a legacy of solutions for anyone to use in their life.
